Background of the Program
Biology department was established in 2004/2011 academic calendar under the faculty of natural and computational science among the four departments, (biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry). The department had started the learning-teaching process in 2004 E.C with 7 staff members holding master’s degree.
From 166 students assigned to the faculty, 43 were assigned to biology department in the regular program. In 2005 academic calendar, 134 students of which 60-regular and 74-summer students were accepted and enrolled under the department and similarly in 2006 the departement has accepted 116 students and 55 were in regular and 61 in summer program as well. In 2007 academic calendar, 110 students were assigned to biology department among which 50 were in regular and 60 in summer program.
Although the establishment of biology department at Mettu University is younger among the old Universities of Ethiopia, the department is working hard to contribute its part as an overall strategy in fighting against poverty and backwardness at the national level just by incorporating Balanced Score Card (BSC).
