About The Department
Attainment of optimum health is the desire of every individual. Health of the people is an Index of the level of development of a country. The achievement of a country in preventing disease and promoting health depends upon the contribution of all members of the health team particularly that of nurses, who spent 24 hours around patient side and form a major group.
Nursing education rendered in the country was only at the lower level since the year 1949 and at the post-basic baccalaureate level since 1994. Diploma graduates were expected to perform more varied and complex nursing tasks at any level and settings that need strong educational backgrounds and competency. Nurses in the country work in all health infrastructures and their areas of responsibilities vary from client caregivers to management positions, educators in the school of nursing, health education and in participating or carrying out research activities.
As nursing is a practice-oriented profession that deals with the life of individuals, it needs competency through community based team training, and hospital based practices in different settings by ongoing integration of theory and practice followed by an internship or professional practice. Nurses also deal with preventive, promoting, curative and rehabilitative roles. Based on these justifications the duration of the nursing Education is years program with a total of eight semesters. The Samara university Health science college nursing department pursues the philosophy of Community-Based Education and mission through teaching, research, and service.
With the continued advances in science and technology, expansion in the knowledge of medical and nursing disciplines, the concepts of primary Health care, the expanding roles, functions and responsibilities of nurses, there is a need for in-depth knowledge with sound background of basic and behavioral sciences, and nursing and its pre-requisites, and the opportunities to improve the skills of middle level nursing manpower.
SU has motivated to initiate health professional training initially on bachelor of nursing since 2012.And this teaching program was started by the school which comprises of 6 staffs.
In addition to equipping students technically and practically, SU provide various scholarship opportunities for staffs and currently the department comprises of 8 MSc holders, 3 BSc Nurses and 1 technical staff with a total of 12 staffs and 7staffs are attending further Education on different specializations including medicine.
Currently there are 152 students enrolled in regular program and 220 are registered in extension program. In 2020 the department planned to Start MSc Nursing in different specializations.
There are both Generic extension and post basic extension programs at different extension centers. as of its cost effectiveness and more of graduating qualified Nurse graduates with only 3 years stay in post basic program because the students are All Nursing diploma holders and COC certified.
