SCHOLARSHIPS & ASSISTANTSHIPS

There are two basic forms of financial support that METU NCC is able to offer its graduate students; first are Graduate Research Scholarships (which partially or wholly cover tuition fees), and second is Graduate Assistantships (which provide wages for assistantship work and/or some additional benefits).
Scholarship and Assistantship positions are limited and competitive and are evaluated on the basis of merit by the appropriate Graduate Program Committee.

GRAUDATE ASSISTANT SCHOLARSHIPS

Graduate Assistant Scholarship aims to support the academic development of graduate students and encourage their active participation in the educational and research activities of the Campus. The Graduate Assistant Scholarships need to determine for each academic year.
Graduate Assistants (GAs) are responsible for full the tasks assigned by their program coordinators and lecturers. These tasks involve laboratory experiments, fieldwork and recitation hours, quizzes and assignments and proctoring exams. GA is expected to provide service for an average of 20 hours weekly.
The GAs receive a monthly stipend. They also benefit from free accommodation on Campus subject to the payment of the occupational charges (electricity, water, services). The GAs are entitled to 15 working days of paid vacation leave and 20 working days of paid research leave, subject to the approval of his/her thesis advisor. Graduate Assistantships are normally awarded for the duration of the study, but they are subject to annual review by the Graduate Program Committee.
Applications to a Graduate Assistant Scholarships position should be made as part of the normal application to the graduate program, at Step 8 of the online application process.

GRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP:

Graduate Research (GR) Scholarship is awarded to students who are interested in working on pre-determined research projects of interest to the faculty. It provides a tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend.

OTHER RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP:

Other research assistantships and fellowships are often available from externally funded research projects; information about these can be obtained through direct communication with the faculty members.
Eligibility for Graduate Assistant Scholarship

All applicants – irrespective of origin, nationality or citizenship – to the Master’s program are eligible to apply for an Assistantship.
All assistantships will be assessed and awarded on the basis of merit.

Tuition waiver scholarship opportunity for academic year 2020-2021
Tuition waiver scholarships of 25% and 50% offered at the time of admission to applicants with application scores (National or International curriculum) considerably above the minimum required for application and 75% & 100% for exceptionally successful applicants. The applications are evaluated by the international students admission committee weekly.
Duration for scholarship: 5 years in the program of study (Note: The duration of all undergraduate programs are four years), plus 1 year in the English Language Preparatory Program (if required).
Suspension Condition: The scholarship is suspended for the following semester if the student falls into Probation status in any semester other than his/her first two semesters in the degree program, and will be re-granted once the student gets out of Probation. (As per the METU NCC regulations, the student falls into probation status if his/her CGPCA falls below 2.00 out of 4.00 for two consecutive semesters)
The scholarship of students who attend the English Preparatory Program for one year, and have a yearly total of 50.00 or above, or students who score minimum 50 in any one of the English Proficiency Exams they take continues for another year. In other words, they can repeat the English Preparatory Program under the same scholarship. However, a student must not fail due to absenteeism because such students will not have a yearly total as they have not completed a year at the English Preparatory Program. The only way such students can repeat the English Preparatory Program under a scholarship is score minimum 50 in the only English Proficiency Exam they can take, which is the exam administered in September.
3.2. Merit Scholarship:
On condition that student have successfully completed the first two semesters of an undergraduate degree program, excluding the Prep School period, and that their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) has placed them among the top 3% of the total undergraduate students enrolled in that particular program, excluding those attending the Prep School classes;
Students who have attained an N-CGPA (Weighted-Cumulative Grade Point Average) in the interval of 3,50 – 3,74 based on a 4 point scale become eligible to receive a “Merit Scholarship”, which amounts to 450 TL per month, covering October, November, December and January of the following Fall Semester; and February, March, April and May of the Spring Semester.
Students who have attained 3,75 or higher N-CGPA on a 4 point scale become eligible to receive a Merit Scholarship, which amounts to 650 TL per month, covering October, November, December and January of the following Fall semester; and February, March, April and May of the Spring Semester.
3.3. Student Assistantship:
There are also scholarship opportunities offered to students in return for working in the library, laboratories, IT, sports complex, dormitories etc. In order to be eligible for this type of scholarship, not only academic success but also the student’s financial conditions and disciplinary suitability are taken into consideration.
3.4. Support Scholarship:
On the condition that they are successful in their studies, students in need of temporary financial support, may apply to this scholarship (with evidence of their situation) which provides them with books, necessities etc. This support is subject to decision of the Scholarship and Support Fund of METU NCC.
