General Information
There are 18 modern dormitories within the University Campus. The İsa Demiray Dormitory, one of the blocks of Refika Aksoy Dormitory and the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 9th dormitories are for male students and the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th dormitories, The Faika Demiray Dormitory and one of the blocks of Refika Aksoy Dormitory are for female students. There is also Osman Yazıcı Girls’ Guest House and METU Guest House which are for female students. For male students, there is Faik Hızıroğlu Guest House. Also, in the 2 dormitories operated by EBİ, both female and male students can accommodate.
The rooms in the 2nd dormitory are for two students. And the rooms in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th dormitories and Faika Demiray and İsa Demiray and Refika Aksoy Dormitories are for four students. There are rooms for 1, 2, 3 or 4 people at Osman Yazıcı Girls’ Guest House, METU Guest House and EBI Guest House.
The Facilities in the Dorms
Computer laboratories are available 24 hours for our students residing at our dormitories. Internet connection and wired telephone service is available at dormitory rooms. There are studying rooms at the dormitories. Students can also find rooms where they can study drawing and design for technical courses. The conveniences at every dormitory include TV Rooms, food shops and modern kitchens where students are able to cook their own meals. Automatic dispenser machines provide hot drinks like tea and coffee, biscuit/crackers and various beverages.
There are adequate numbers of automatic washing machines, driers, irons and ironing desks at the dorms. Older sheets are replaced with clean ones every two weeks. Hot water service is available 24 hours.
In every dorm, students can find 3 telephones (used with cards that can be purchased from the post office in METU) for general use. In every room at Guesthouse (Sami Kırdar), Osman Yazıcı and İsa Demiray, Faika Demiray, Refika Aksoy Student Dormitory and EBİ Guesthouse, there are wired telephone connections.
There is a shopping center in the campus where students can do shopping and find all sorts of products and services they need. There are branches of various banks at the center of campus as well.
In the area where dormitories are located, the students can find sports facilities as well as the places for outdoor sports activities such as fields for football and basketball, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, sports halls etc.

Transportation
There are buses and minibuses operating between the city center and the dormitories between the hours 07.00 and 24.00. Besides, there also are ring busses that operate between dormitories and departments.
Application Procedure
The students, whose families live outside Ankara, can apply for accommodation in the dorms. The students, who are newly admitted to the University, should fill and submit the METU Students Personal Information Form during registrations. The students, who did not apply during registrations, can apply to Directorate of Dormitories at the Dormitory 2 building within two weeks after the commencement of the lessons. Applications after this date are admitted as well, however general points of these late applications will then be lowered.
Assessment of the Applications
Financial and social position of every applicant’s family is investigated via local administrative units. The results of this investigation and the success of the student together are assessed and graded according to several criteria, which are determined by the Executive Board of the Dormitories and approved by the Presidency. The results of the assessments are announced on the boards of Directorate of Dormitories at the 2nd dormitory building. After the student learns his/her average point he/she can get the information about when to register to the dorms from the registration board every week on Monday.
Registration to the Dormitories
Registration begins by placing the students that have the highest amount of general amount of general points and the students with the lower points are placed after the former are. The places of the students who have left the dorms are filled with other students of lower points until the end of the dormitory application period. The student, who was not placed into the dorms in the semester he/she applied, should apply again. If the student’s general point is accepted and if all the documents listed on METU Dormitories Applications Slip is present, the student can apply to Directorate of Dormitories and register himself/herself. After the procedures in the Registration Bureau are completed, the student takes his/her documents from there, and applies to the dormitory he/she will stay until 16.00. Registration to the dormitories is now completed.

Notice: The stay of those students will be rendered void, if they have no more rights to stay in the dorm.

The Status of The Students Who Did Not Register Within the Specified Dates

The student, who had the right to register to the dormitories according to the general points announced, but did not register within the specified deadlines, loses the right to register himself/herself with this general point announced for him/her on the list. In this case the students’ points will be calculated again according to late application situation.

The Regulations in the Dorms

METU student dormitories are managed, run and controlled according to the rules in the Dormitory Regulations. The Dormitory Regulations can be read from bulletin boards of every dorm. We recommend our students to read these regulations.
Moreover, the written information about the regulations in the dorms is handed to the students during registrations to the dorms.

  • Going on Leave

Every student has the right to go on a leave for 15 days within a semester other than the weekends and holidays. The students, who will use their leave, should fill out a form, which can be obtained from the dormitory office. The students below the age of 18 should bring a note of permission from their parents to be able to use their leaves. The related form can be obtained from the Directorates of the Dormitories.

  • Latest entrance hour to the Dormitories

The students residing at the dorms should be within the campus at 23.30. The latest time to enter the dorms is 24.00.

  • Staying at the Dorms During Holidays

The students, whose education continue during the holidays (due to summer school, project, internship etc.), should present their reasons to stay with an authorized letter.

  • Sports Facilities

Around the dormitories, there are basketball courts, volleyball grounds, football fields, tennis courts, open and closed swimming pools, and 2 gyms (which are open till 23.00)

  • Dormitory Address

When the students use the dormitory address, they should indicate the number of the dormitory, the number of the room and the number of their bed.
