The College of Business and Economics (formerly Faculty of Business and Economics) was established at the Bule Hora University in the year 2011 GC in response to the government’s program of expanding and diversifying university education.  The objective of establishing the College is to produce well-trained manpower in the area of Business and Economics that could contribute towards the development of the country.  Along with the production of professional, the college shoulder public responsibility to backup the development effort of the nation through provision of quality education, societal problem solving research activities, community based service and many others.

Since its inception, the College is offering just one major bachelor undergraduate degree program at regular. The college started its function by accepting about 40 students in the one  program Department of Accounting and Finance. Currently, the college has accepted and enrolled more than 1578 students regular program  and 1605 students weekend program in five departments namely: Accounting and Finance, Management, Economics, Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Marketing Management. out of the total 1578  assigned regular students to our college (Department of Accounting and Finance: 395 students, Economics: 388 students, and Management: 404 students, Marketing Management: 117 students, Logistics and Supply Chain Management: 274 students). Sixty six percent (66.23%) of them are male while 33.77% are female. The College runs also graduate programs namely:  MBA in Management and Marketing (Regular and weekend) and MSc in Accounting and Finance (Regular and weekend). There are also 42 regular and 130 weekend MBA students in the Management  and 18 weekend students MBA in Marketing program.  There are also 7 regular and 19 weekend MSc students in the Accounting and Finance program.

The vision of the college of Business and Economics is to be one of the top ten College in Ethiopia by 2025 through the provision of quality education, research and consultancy service in Business and Economics.

Overview Department of Accounting and Finance
The Department of Accounting and Finance has been contributing towards meeting the country’s demand for trained human resource in the areas of accounting and finance since its establishment in 2011 in the name of the Department of Accounting and Finance under the College of Business & Economics (CBE).
The Department runs both graduate and undergraduate programs namely:

  •   BA in Accounting and Finance (Regular and weekend); and
  •   MSc in Accounting and Finance (Regular andweekend);

The Department has currently 395 students in the regular and 543 in the extension program in the undergraduate Accounting and Finance program. There are also 7 regular and 19weekend MSc students in the Accounting and Finance program.
Mission
The Accounting Department of the College of Business and Economics (CBE) strives to equip the present and future-leaders with knowledge of current and future accounting, auditing and finance practices and relevant skills through student–centered high quality, viable programs which are fully recognized by both private and public institutions in Ethiopia.
The Accounting Department seeks to sustain its growth and relevance through:

  • A highly educated and motivated faculty;
  • Relevant curriculum leading to an exceptional learning environment with full access to new technologies and computer-mediated learning;
  • Abundant intellectual capital created through scholarly activities;
  • A fully integrated international perspective;
  • A full understanding of employer needs obtained through constant monitoring of the business environment through linkage programs.

A) Teaching and learning objectives:

The general objective of the Department of Accounting and Finance, in line with the AAU strategic objectives and mission, is to be a department of highly qualified instructors dedicated to preparing students for entry-level opportunities and long-term career success in accounting and finance providing a fulfilling experience for members of the faculty, and making meaningful contributions to the professional and academic communities at the national, regional and international levels.

The specific objectives of the Department are to:

  1.  Provide students with sufficient academic and professional base from which to pursue a career in accounting and finance to advance to further study and a potential academic career in accounting and finance;
  2.   Provide students with the skills necessary to apply their knowledge in the organizations and businesses in which they are employed;
  3.   Provide students with a solid basis on which they can adapt to changing techniques and practices in the business and professional world;
  4.    Attract and retain qualified students with the talents necessary to successfully complete their chosen degree programs.

                  B) Research Objectives
The Department also strives to conduct research that contributes directly to its role in providing education to students, (development of teaching materials, promotion of  local relevance, assurance of  international standard, development of business cases for teaching ),   encourages the intellectual development of our faculty, and meets the needs of the local and international business and academic communities

The department of Economics is one of the core departments of the College of Business and Economics . The Department was opened in 2012 G.C and is committed to excellence in the core activities of teaching and research in the field of economics.
At present, the Department runs the following programs:

The Department has currently 388 students in the regular and 610 in the extension program in the undergraduate Economics program.

Vision
The vision of the department is to be one of the top ten departments in Ethiopia by 2025 through the provision of quality education, research and consultancy service in economics.

The mission of the department is enhancing the intellectual and economic validity of Ethiopia through our academic programs, research and community outreach activities.
Overview Department of Management
The Department of Management is one of the oldest departments in Bule Hora University, established under the the  College of Business and Economics. The Department is currently under the College of Business and Economics located on the former Faculty of Business and Economics.
The Department runs both graduate and undergraduate programs namely:

  •   BA in Management (Regular and weekend); and
  •   MBA in Management and Marketing(Regular and weekend);

The Department has currently 404 students in the regular and 323 in the extension program in the undergraduate Management program. There are also 42 regular and 130 weekend MBA students in the Management  and 18 weekend MBA in Marketing program.
Program objectives
Through its programs the department has the objective of producing:

  • Professionals  who are capable of planning, organizing, directing and controlling activities of private, public, non-government and government organizations;
  • Professionals who can competently manage marketing, finance operations, human resource, materials, information resources, etc.;
  • Professionals who are responsive and effective in working with and through others as well as capable of making and implementing decisions;
  • Professionals capable of searching and developing opportunities as well as tackling problems;  and
  • Professionals who are able to face the challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s highly complex and competitive environment.

Professional Profile
The Department is engaged in enabling students to acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical know-how pertinent to the management profession so that they will be competent nationally and internationally. It works towards helping students transfer employability skill in an ethical manner that can be mirrored through their cognitive ability, interpersonal skills, numeric skills and research skills.
Bule Hora University College of Business and Economics Program Profile
The program prepares students to become professional managers capable of executing Human Resources Management, Information System Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Materials Management and Financial Management and other managerial functional areas. The program will:

  • Equip students with a realistic overview of major principles and techniques of human resources management systems;
  • Develop the students’ ability and skills to identify the sources of the information they need and how to utilize the information obtained efficiently;
  •  Introduce students to the development and operation of markets-local, national and international-for resources, goods and services;
  •  Provide students of management with a sound understanding of the concepts techniques, and applications of production and operations management;
  • Equip students with entrepreneurship and ethical concepts; and
  • Equip students with the methods and techniques of acquiring, utilizing, and issuing material resources.

The program is aimed at producing graduates that are equipped with adequate knowledge, skill and attitude towards the application of management concepts. Specifically, graduates of the Department are expected to be able to:

Bule Hora University College of Business and Economics Overview Marketing Management

This Program Unit offers courses in Marketing Management undergraduate levels. The undergraduate program was launched in 2018.
The Department runs undergraduate programs namely:

  •   BA in Marketing Management (Regular and weekend ); and

The Department has currently 117 students in the regular and 48 in the extension program in the undergraduate Marketing Management program.

The Marketing Program “ strives to be among the most reputed program units worldwide for thought leadership in marketing management. “
The mission of the Marketing Program Unit is “to enhance the prestige and academic reputation of the CBE by building an outstanding marketing department that excels in thought leadership through creating and disseminating the value based and cutting edge knowledge in the areas of Marketing Management to the different stakeholders of the university”. The Program Unit is committed to achieve this mission by fostering a collaborative environment among scholars, students marketing professionals, and industry personnel in which intellectual curiosity about the behavioral aspects of marketing is a common focus.
Bule Hora University College of Business and Economics Overview Logistics and Supply Chain Management
The program unit has long been providing an undergraduate degree program in “Logistics and Supply Chain Management”. The accelerated rate of change in the world economy is driven by an empowered consumer; a shift in economic power toward the end of the supply chain; deregulation of key industries; globalization; and rapid change of technology make Purchasing and Supply Management a strategic function in various organizations. Such scope paradigm shift from routine operational activities to more strategic approach for the management of the Supply Chain Management as integrated whole forced the higher institutions to rethink the curriculum revision.
The program is established with the mission of producing qualified and competent people in the area of Logistics and Supply chain Management.  It is also in line with the national priority agendas as it aims to produce graduates who can uplift the economy by properly managing the networks or chains a particular organization is in. There is no problem with regard to demand for the products of the program as revealed in terms of the response obtained from stakeholders via the various symposiums undertaken and the vacancies issued each day from varieties of organizations.
The Department runs undergraduate programs namely:

  •   BA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (Regular and weekend ); and

The Department has currently 274 students in the regular and 206 in the extension program in the undergraduate Logistics and Supply Chain Management program.

 
Graduate Profile
Upon completion of the program, the graduates will be able to perform the following activities:

  • Work as purchase officer, inventory controller, or stores and receiving manager, logistics manager, and supply chain manager;
  • Work as transportation manager;
  • Manage port operations, transit shipping and multimodal operation;
  • Plan and organize logistics management functions;
  • Design, plan, and control supply chain operations; plan & manage demand and supply in a supply chain;
  • Identify potential suppliers; develop criteria for selection of suppliers; supervise, follow-up, and expedite purchase; design performance evaluation of suppliers; and develop long term supplier relationships;
  • Control and manage receiving and inspection activities; develop store classification and codification of systems;
  • Determine economic order quantities, maximum stock levels, safety stock levels, and keep store ledger account; determine values of materials issued and works for optimal utilization of material resources;
  • Negotiate on projects/purchase contracts and manage purchase contracts;
  • Carry out custom clearing operations;
  • Serve as project leaders, researchers, and consultants in logistic and supply chain management;
  • Take the initiative of establishing their own business;
  • Professionally manage materials within both for profit and for non -profit organizations;
  • Coordinate the activities of supply chain management;
  • Carry out international logistics operations;
  • Perform and process tender; and
  • Have a comprehensive and systematic understanding of research techniques and methodologies applicable to logistics and supply chain management theory.
